2015 CWAA Mission Trip – The Dominican Republic

On Saturday night, March 28, a group of 42 people (34 students and 8 adult leaders) gathered at the Calgary airport to get checked in for a departure shortly after midnight. After connecting through Toronto, we arrived at the Puerto Plata airport in the Dominican Republic and made the 7+ hour drive to the Barahona area where we did much of our service. While in the Barahona area, our group helped to paint a church, did some construction projects at a school, led out in Vacation Bible School at a school, as well as providing some preaching, music and children’s programming for some evangelistic meetings. Part of our group split off for several days to do ministry in the city of Higuey. While there, they helped with children’s ministry, medical ministry, and door-to-door outreach. Near the end of the trip, we headed to a small resort in the north of the country, had the opportunity to do some snorkelling, and went to the airport on April 9 to fly back to Canada. During the trip, one of our Grade 10 students was baptized in the Caribbean near our hotel. The trip was busy, but overall a great experience as our team members had opportunities to serve and experience life in the Dominican Republic!

The 2015 CWAA Mission Trip was a short-term mission project arranged between Chinook Winds Adventist Academy and Maranatha.
